Designed an escalator vehicle for wheelchair users in situations where lift access is unavailable/infrastructure not in place, specifically at certain underground stations, wheelchair users are diverted/turned away.
Freedom of access is key to determining a successful public transport system.
Every day more than 31 million separate journey segments are made across London’s transport network.
Even with multiple modes of transport, ease of use, ease of navigation, is a common occurrence.
Challenges in gaining access to and understanding systems can be confusing or stressful for all, especially visitors.
However, those with impairments tend to be most affected, as from an outside perspective the transport infrastructure appears to be designed for the abled bodied, and then through design intervention, adapted to better serve those with specific challenges.
