The “Biconcave Swoop” is the result of experimentation, with the aim of creating a chaise with incorporated arm rests, like sport seats with side bolsters.
I determined that the key design consideration to achieve this aim was the cross-section of the seat.
After research and several cross-section sketches, my chosen experimental design was inspired by the red blood cell and its biconcave form/cross-section.
Materials/Manufacture possibilities:
- Cork (layered/agglomerated)
- Moulded Aluminium (polished finish)
- Skelton structure (Cardboard/MDF sections), covered in either Cork or upholstery e.g. Vegan leather, Stay-clean fabric
- 3D printed recycled plastic / Sulapac ECO-FIL-A-GEHR® Wood
